The aim of this website is to provide easy access to the latest information on the proposed redevelopment of the stadium at Shawfield in Rutherglen. It sets out how you can get involved and share your views as part of our community consultation process, prior to the submission of a planning application to South Lanarkshire Council. Background

Shawfield Regeneration Limited is seeking to submit an application for Planning Permission in Principle (PPiP) to redevelop the current stadium at Shawfield into a mixed-use development, including residential, hotel and commercial uses.

This application will aim to establish the principle of development of the site, and if consented will be followed by more detailed development proposals.

Part of the wider Clyde Gateway masterplan, this mixed-use neighbourhood continues the regeneration of the area, delivering much-needed new homes and commercial uses, breathing new life into the area.

Modern sustainable high-quality housing will use the latest low carbon and net-zero technology. For example, the nearby Dalmarnock District Heating system is available to the Shawfield site via the connections within the ‘Smart Bridge’ – the pedestrian and cycle bridge over the Clyde.

In addition, proposed hotel and ancillary commercial uses will complement Glasgow’s newest business district, Magenta Business Park, with the overall site extremely well-served by transport and leisure links. This reinforces active travel connections to the city centre and wider.

This proposed highly-sustainable development will, if consented, deliver considerable investment and employment opportunities for the Shawfield area.

Consultation Events

We strongly believe in the need for ongoing dialogue regarding our proposals for the redevelopment of the stadium at Shawfield, promising to consult and listen carefully to views, and making changes where possible to improve our development.

As part of this process, we believe in a meaningful and effective pre-application consultation (PAC) process, aiming to engage early on with the local community and other key stakeholders prior to the submission of a PPiP application to South Lanarkshire Council.

This process aims to improve the quality of the planning application; address misunderstandings; consider local community issues as they relate to the application proposals; mitigate negative impacts where possible, and ultimately improve development outcomes.

In accordance with planning regulations, a minimum of two public consultation events require to be held as part of a minimum 12-week consultation period in advance of the submission of the application, anticipated to take place in early 2024

A second public consultation event outlining our proposals will be held on Thursday 7th December between 2pm and 7pm at Red Tree Magenta, 270 Glasgow Road, Rutherglen G73 1SA.

Consultation boards will be available to view, providing information on the emerging proposals, with the project team on hand to explain and answer questions, and the opportunity to provide feedback. This consultation incorporates views and comments, where appropriate, from the first event held on Thursday 2nd November.

Feedback provided will be considered, incorporated and adapted prior to the submission of a planning application.

The consultation boards will be available to view on this website from 9am on Thursday 7th December 2023.
